Hintergrund und Entstehung

Der Song wurde von Matt Powell für das Internat geschrieben, das er zusammen mit seiner Lebensgefährtin führt. Er gilt als Geschenk für die Kinder, die dort wohnen und wurde ohne vorherige Ankündigung veröffentlicht. Dadurch hat es einen großen Ansturm auf die verschiedenen Songplattformen gegeben, sodass zahlreiche Webseiten nicht erreicht werden konnten, da die Server so überlastet waren. Der Song brach gleich mehrere Rekorde: Die meisten Coverversionen innerhalb von 24, 48 sowie 72 Stunden.

Veröffentlichung und Erfolg

Fans auf der ganzen Welt schrieben in sozialen Medien, dass dieser Song ihren tiefsten Gefühlen eine Stimme verleihen würde. Er gilt unter den Risers als eine Hymne dafür, sich nicht an seine Familie binden zu müssen, wenn man mit dieser nicht gut klarkommt.

Als Matt Powell in einem Interview gefragt wurde, was er davon hält, dass sich Menschen durch diesen Song motiviert fühlen würden, sich ihre Familie selbst auszusuchen, antwortete er: „Das ist eine wunderschöne Interpretation. Wir müssen uns nicht durch Dinge wie gemeinsame DNA leiten lassen. Familie sind jene Leute, die wir dazu machen.“
