Hintergrund und Entstehung

Der Song entstand aus einer tiefen persönlichen Erfahrung von Kendal Merritt, der in seiner Beziehung zu einer schwarzen Frau immer wieder mit Vorurteilen zu kämpfen hat. Er sah sich gezwungen, seine Gefühle in einem Lied auszudrücken, und schuf eine leidenschaftliche Botschaft gegen Rassismus und zeigt den Kampf, den er und seine Partnerin durchmachen, um ihre Liebe zu schützen. Es ist ein kraftvoller Aufruf, sich nicht von Hass und Intoleranz brechen zu lassen, sondern für das einzustehen, was wirklich zählt: die Liebe.
